Did you know that mosquitoes live almost everywhere? They even live in Alaska!

How do mosquitoes survive winter?

Mosquito Sweaters!

Help the East Flagler Mosquito Control District design a mosquito sweater for the 26-27 school year. You could win a classroom party filled with fun, goodies, a gift card… and of course, we will tell you how mosquitoes really survive winter. Plus, the teacher from the winning class will receive a shopping spree!

This is open to all K-5th-grade students in Flagler County.

Submissions are due by January 11, 2027.

*Note: Optional: Teachers, you can combine ALL artwork into 1 PDF and upload it for your whole classroom.

Official Contest Rules

1. Eligibility

  • The contest is open to all students in kindergarten through 5th grade who attend school or are homeschooled in Flagler County, Florida.
  • Students may participate individually, or their teacher may submit as a class.
  • Each student may submit one entry.
  • There is no cost to participate.

2. Design Requirements

  • Students are encouraged to use their imagination to create a fun and unique Skeeter Sweater design.
  • Students may color the official Skeeter Sweater template or create an original design.
  • Artwork may be drawn, colored, painted, sewn, crafted, or created using other artistic materials.
  • All entries must be the student’s own work, although age-appropriate assistance from a parent or teacher is permitted.
  • Each entry must clearly include the student’s first and last name and their teacher’s name.

3. How to Enter

  • Submit completed artwork through the official Skeeter Sweater Google Form.
  • You may upload individual entries as photographs, scans, or PDFs. PDFs are preferred.
  • Teachers may submit artwork for their entire classroom by combining individual entries into one PDF.
  • Each student’s name must be clearly marked on their individual artwork, including entries submitted as part of a classroom PDF.
  • The District may also collect physical artwork through arrangements with the participating school or teacher.

4. Submission Deadline

  • All entries must be submitted by January 11, 2027.
  • Entries submitted after the deadline may not be considered.

5. Judging and Winner Selection

  • Representatives of the East Flagler Mosquito Control District will review entries.
  • Judges will evaluate designs based on creativity, originality, effort, and overall presentation.
  • Artwork will be judged with consideration for the student’s grade level.
  • One grand prize-winning design will be selected.
  • The District reserves the right to recognize additional outstanding entries.
  • The Flagler Education Foundation, in coordination with this contest, may host a social media contest for an additional prize for the “fan favorite.
    • Winning the Grand Prize does not preclude you from being the “Fan Favorite.”

6. Prizes

The grand prize-winning entry will receive the following awards:

  • Winning Student: A gift card!
  • Winning Teacher: A shopping spree!
  • Winning Classroom: A classroom party hosted by the East Flagler Mosquito Control District, featuring fun activities, goodies, and an opportunity to learn how mosquitoes actually survive winter.
  • Fan Favorite: A Social Media Contest that does not include the school name or students’ names. Individuals will vote on their favorite Skeeter Sweater. A gift card will be presented to the Winner of the Fan Favorite.
    • Being the Grand Prize Winner does not preclude you from being the Fan Favorite.

The District will communicate prize details, including gift card and shopping spree values, to the winners.

Prizes are subject to availability and may not be exchanged for cash.

7. Winner Notification

  • The District will contact the winning student’s teacher or parent/guardian using the information provided on the entry form.
  • The District will coordinate classroom party arrangements with the winning teacher and school.
  • The winning student and teacher may be recognized through District communications, subject to appropriate permissions.

8. Artwork and Publicity

  • The East Flagler Mosquito Control District, Flagler School, or the Flagler Education Foundation may display submitted artwork for educational or promotional purposes when appropriate permission has been obtained.
  • The District, Flagler Schools, or the Flagler Education Foundation may request additional parent or guardian permission before publishing a student’s name, photograph, or other identifying information.
  • Submission of an entry does not automatically authorize the public release of a student’s personal information.

9. General Conditions

  • Entries must be appropriate for a school-aged audience.
  • The District and community partners are not responsible for incomplete, unreadable, or unsuccessful electronic submissions.
  • The District reserves the right to disqualify entries that do not meet the contest requirements.
  • Participation in the contest constitutes acceptance of these rules.
